Before the Weimar Republic, Germany was under the control of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The Kaiser was in charge of Germany along with his ministers who would have helped him with certain decisions. During the First World War the people of Germany were facing starvation. Life for the German people was hard and faith was lost in the leadership of the Kaiser. There were many protests against the disappointing leadership from the Kaiser. Once the war had been concluded, the Allies (Britain, France and USA) offered peace to Germany only if they were able to become a more democratic society. Germany held an election were Friedrich Ebert, leader of the Social Democratic Party, was elected. He set up a new constitution.
